Malawi was The British Protectorate of Nyasaland and gained independence in 1964. Tthe country shares its borders with Mozambique, Tanzania and Zambia. It is situated in the southern part of the Great African Rift Valley and is known as 'the warm heart of Africa'. This refers not only to the warm sub-tropical climate, but also to the warm, amiable, welcoming people. One fifth of Malawi's land mass is taken up by 'The Lake of Stars', a description used by David Livingstone for Lake Malawi.
This destination is perfect for safaris, varying from tours by car, foot, horseback and boat. Experience the thrill of the great African outdoors, spotting elephant, hippos, giraffe, zebra, lion and numerous varieties of buck. The shores of Lake Malawi, which is more like an inland sea than a lake, offers swimming, snorkelling, and tanning!! An interior 'beach' holiday destination which includes activities such as scuba diving, snorkelling, yachting and fishing!! The lake is home to over 500 species of tropical fish, which are sold worldwide. You can experience the true 'African way of life' and get to know the culture and traditions of the native Malawians.
